6 simple steps to better ads

We want to help you save time and sell more stock. Here’s how to do exactly that – and get the most from every advert you post on the bigger motor marketplace.

Price to sell

Your cars are only worth what people are willing to pay for them. Make sure you always know your market and set prices accordingly.

Start by conducting a search for the vehicle you’re selling. How are the vehicles within 10 miles priced? Statistics show that listings which start with a high asking price then reduce to sell ultimately return a lower profit than stock that’s priced to sell faster from the outset.

Look the business

When searching for a car, buyers see before they read. Present your cars in their best light with
great photographs.

Car prep

Car prep

Give the car a thorough clean inside and out, and remove all personal items.

Background prep

Background prep

Ensure the car is the focal point of your shot and avoid busy backgrounds.

Camera selection

Camera selection

Use the best camera you can find to take accurate, appealing photos.

Lighting enhancement

Lighting enhancement

Natural light works best in bringing out the true colours of a car’s paintwork.

Image editing

Edit your photographs to remove any faces or personal information.

Image posting

Image posting

Post up to 20 images in one advert to show everything buyers want to see.

Give a complete description

Write every advert for the exact vehicle you’re selling – not just the make and model.
Include all the info a potential buyer might find useful, like:

  • Tyre condition
  • Key features
  • Extras/modifications
  • MOT due date
  • Service history
  • Number of owners
  • Condition of car/bodywork

And don’t forget to include your business and sales team in the description.
Add in Google reviews and customer satisfaction scores to highlight your good sales reputation.

Nail down the details

Always enter the vehicle registration number. This helps us correctly identify your car and carry out a vehicle history check*, which helps you save time and get your advert posted fast.

A punchy title can be a big help too. If a buyer is searching for a BMW 3 Series and yours is up against 20 others with similar mileage and price, “Free MOT” or “One owner from new” could be the hook that lands you the sale.

*Vehicle history check results are displayed on all listings within Plus and Premium packages.

Eliminate the little errors

No one is perfect. But with a little care up front and one last look before posting, your adverts can be.

  • First, write your advert text in a programme like Microsoft Word that’s designed to save you time and stress by picking up the spelling and grammar mistakes we all make. The right spelling also ensures your cars get found in keyword search.
  • Break up chunks of text into paragraphs or bullet points to make your description easier for buyers to read and remember.
  • And we know you want to shout about your stock, but if you use BLOCK CAPITALS in your text, buyers might just feel like you’re shouting at them – and move on. Keep it calm.
